Funzi Keys - Kenya's Hidden Gem

Funzi Keys is an unspoilt gem in the Indian Ocean. Off the coast of Kenya not far from the border with Tanzania, it takes 15 minutes by plane from Mombasa, or a road journey to Shirazi and a boat trip through the mangroves.

Owned and run by the Torriani family, Funzi Keys has 17 thatched bungalows for a real "get away from it all" experience. Watching Pied Kingfishers diving into the swimming pool alongside us was a real thrill. Not sure what they were diving for, perhaps washing the salt from their feathers after fishing in the sea?

A short boat trip away is Wasini island - well worth a visit to see the amazing coral garden and boardwalk through the mangroves.
