Quirimbas Archipelago

The Quirimbas Archipelago is a 200-mile string of islands in the Indian Ocean off the coast of Mozambique. The remoteness, simplicity and beauty makes them the most amazing beach location I have ever visited.

There are 32 islands in the chain, most of them uninhabited. We stayed on Matemo Island - a stunning location with a coral reef for snorkelling right off the beach. A short dhow trip away is Ibo Island, with a turbulent history as a Portuguese and Omani trading port. Some of its architecture dates back to the 1500's.
