Common Waterbuck

Kobus ellipsiprymnus

Size: Up to 1.3m high
Habitat: Not far from water - grassland, woodland, scrub
Feeding: Grass, herbs and foliage

The Common Waterbuck is an antelope with a rather shaggy red/brown coat.

It can be distinguished from the Defassa Waterbuck by the white, horseshoe-shaped ring on its rump. The Defassa Waterbuck has a completely white rump. Only the males have horns which are tightly spiralled.

It has a lifespan of 10 - 12 years.
