Black Crake

Amaurornis flavirostra

Size: Up to 23 cms long
Habitat: Fresh water marshes
Feeding: Fish, frogs, invertebrates and seeds

The Black Crake is a water bird that is predominantly black but with a yellow beak, red eyes and red legs and feet. The male is slightly larger than the female.

This bird is very aggressive during the breeding season.
