These attractive flowers grow from a bulb. They have numerous common names, Football Lily, Catherine Wheel, Poison Root, Fireball Lily, Powderpuff Lily.
The flower head is made up of hundreds of tiny red florets growing on a stout stalk.
This plant is poisonous.
These photos were taken on the Zimbabwean side of Victoria Falls, although they are widespread in Africa.
