The African Ebony is also called the Jackalberry. The trunk is dark and the leaves are dark green. It has cream coloured flowers and the purple fruits are edible.

This tree provides good wood for making furniture and the colour varies from red brown to dark brown. It is sometimes used for making Mokoros, traditional canoes used as transport in the Okavango Delta.

These photos were taken in the Okavango Delta, Botswana and the Selous National Park, Tanzania.
