Doum Palm

Hyphaene thebaica

Height: Up to 9m
Family: Arecaceae
Fruit: Dates

The Doum Palm is also called the gingerbread tree because of the flavour of the fruit.

It is a plam tree but with forked branches rather than a single trunk. The leaves are fan-shaped. The oval fruits are yellow and are edible as well as the seeds.

This photo was taken in the Selous National Park, Tanzania.
